Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday said that in his government a lot of work has been done to streamline the old system and processes and to see that the delivery mechanism improves.

“We see that in the last one and a half years a lot of work has gone into ensuring that the implementation of the schemes at the grassroot level improves,” Conrad said.

The Chief Minister also said that they are also working very aggressively to streamline the financial situation in terms of ensuring that the additional burden that the State is faced with is properly handled. According to him, all aspects are taken into consideration to ensure that the revenue generation is streamlined.

Meanwhile, on the issue of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), the Chief Ministers of the Northeast and Union Home Minister Amit Shah was very clear that they will visit, talk to people and discuss and try to ensure that the concerns of various communities of the different States are addressed in a proper manner before it is taken up.

“Amit Shah made a visit to Mizoram the other day and met the Chief Minister and held discussions with other organizations. I think it is a part of a exercise and in Meghalaya also we want to ensure that we move in that manner,” he said.

He stated that the CAB was one of the issue that they discussed with the Union Home Minister wherein he was told that consultations must take place before such an Act is passed in Parliament.

Conrad said that people from different States, political parties and organizations must be consulted because this issue affects all of the people in the region and subsequently in line with that different discussion have been taking place.
