Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s has accepted all “valid” demands of the opposition parties, except his resignation, direct talks on Tuesday between the government and opposition negotiating teams failed to break the deadlock between them. Dubbed the “Azadi March”, the opposition parties, led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman and his party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl), have staged a sit-in in Islamabad after their caravan of protesters entered the capital city last week. The opposition has four key demands: the resignation of Khan as PM; fresh elections; for the polls to be conducted by the Election Commission of Pakistan, and without military oversight; and the implementation of the constitution in letter and spirit. The government, on the other hand, has demanded that the opposition parties end their sit-in.
